About the Department

The Department of Computing Science was established in 1972 with 4 members of staff. It has grown over the years to its present size of 4 professors; 14 lecturers and senior lecturers; 4 teaching assistants and fellows; 8 research assistants, fellows, and managers; and 2 computing officers. Prof Derek Sleeman was appointed as chair of Computing Science in 1986; Profs Peter Gray and Jim Hunter were awarded personal chairs in 1989 and 2001; and Prof Chris Mellish joined the department in 2003.
